Peña Proud: Community Agriculture.
It’s been a year and a half since I purchased this property with the vision of the farm. I look back at all the demolition, tree removal and dragging dirt around to make what it is today. I thank Chris for all his dirt work and tractor usage and also my dear friend Rubel for his extensive dedication to helping me labor the farm and make it glow like it does right now. Gustavo is responsible for the awesome fencing and massive amounts of other work with my home. I feel really blessed to have met such down to earth people here in Peña and I am grateful everyday.
When I moved here I knew I wanted a store and a farm and to share my teas and produce with my community. It’s even more clearer to me today, that feeding a community and allowing for a spot to connect in the time of COVID.. how important it really is for morale, health and happiness.
On Mondays I am visited by the surrounding Fire Departments. They come to enjoy the commraderie and enjoy something to sip on. Often, I will partake in the conversation, but I’ll be honest, I love being in the shop making someone a drink, and hear their laughter and giggles.
I have befriended young and old and having connections with both and understanding the fragile ways we all navigate lately. In a country where anxiety is a little higher and trust is a little lessened, I take pride in offering a place for people to connect and love each other.
Offering fresh food from the farm is of great importance to me. I want others to benefit from organically grown goods and to benefit from the nourishment that it gives the body and mind. Lets just say I am thrilled to be here doing what I am doing. I get great joy in knowing that people have a safe and clean space to meet and eat from the earth.
So with this first blog post, I wanted to say welcome. Come by. Wear your mask and be gentle with each other. I will always post on my instagram account what I am pulling for the week and if I will be open on Saturday. I try to have something special to offer and this week it will be a Apple Cider Crumb Cake. It’s so good! I will also have a HIGH TEA next month so be sure to check out the HIGH TEA page for info on that.
Have a beautiful day everyone!
