our roots
I am an artist. I am a farmer. I have a serious love affair with dirt and the earth. I’ve never birthed any children but I can grow one heck of a squash, tomato, melon and an abundance of chamomile. My love for teas began when I promised myself I would no longer drink coffee. See my body doesn't like caffeine or the acid associated with coffee. Tea came in to my life because I wanted something warm to drink. I wanted to the ritual of a warm beverage sitting outside watching the sun rise and I wanted to end my day sitting on my veranda in the winter sipping something hot and delicious. Herbal teas became a huge part of my daily routine. I would frequently travel all of the world and bring home these aromatic prizes. It got me to thinking… why don’t I harvest my own? I love growing, I love the meticulous behavior that comes with drying herbs and well, that is when it all came together. Here I am today, growing herbal plants and drying them to supply to the many tourists who come to Pena Blanca just to sip a cup of tea.
In the beginning I would keep it simple. Feeling somewhat like a magician in my studio, I would carefully dry and care and bottle up these beautiful leaves and drink them all alone. I started getting adventurous and combining citrus rinds, spiced seeds and dried jalapeños! All of the herbs in the store, are sealed in mason jars and you can choose what you’d like to sip on or what you would like to take home.
We are a plant based farm. We are a ‘sit and stay’ kind of cafe and we definitely have the store for those unique gifts for friends. All items in the store are carefully curated for the more natural and holistic minded shopper that has a bit of an artistic edge. Produce is always in abundance in the summer months and now with the greenhouse, we plan to grow year-round. Come out of some peace in Peña.
